Getting Proactive

g1.jpgThe knee is still bonked and my initial attempt at fixing lead to not much of anything. The doctor-recommended MRI cost a whopping $1,875 with my embarrassing/awful insurance policy – and that’s just to find out if it’d actually need surgery that would cost another God-knows-how-much.

A panicked phone call to my primary care physician opened up a few more options, and it’s looking like a good orthopedic or sports medicine doctor combined with a physical therapist might be a possible avenue. Insurance will cover all but a $30 co-pay at the right place, and I’d much rather go the natural route than get 4 tubes inserted into my knee and parts of my meniscus cut off. One step at a time, I guess.

I haven’t done much to improve it and I think my legs have atrophied considerably. Time to go for a swim, I think. After an 8000 calorie Thanksgiving (a completely uneducated and perhaps modest guess) I’m feeling useless. It’s been hard to be active when I can’t run at all, though.

Everything else kind of pales in comparison.

In other news, Mae and I have officially set a date for our wedding. August 30 on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The spot is Hatley Park, which also has one of the only castles on the island (what, doesn’t your island have multiple castles?). Kind of fairy tale but very awesome. We’re both excited, if not just a little concerned about how we’re going to pay for it all.
